Abstract
Students use their knowledge of the types of statistical graphs covered in previous lessons to interpret data presented by the graphs. Given data presented in a variety of graphs, students will interpret the graphs and answer questions related to the data presented on the graphs.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

i. Interpret data presented in graphs and answer questions related to that data.

National Science Education Standard
Data Analysis and Probability

Formulate questions that can be addressed with data and collect, organize, and display relevant data to answer them
Select and use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data

Activity
1. Go over the problems from yesterday and allow time for students to defend their different answers.

2. As some of the questions can have different answers spend some time discussing how the wording of the question could lead to different answers.

3. Give the students the “Practice Interpreting Data on Graphs” sheet and allow them time to work together on the problems. Wander around the room, helping pairs of students, as needed.

Embedded Assessment

Informal discussion and debate about the homework will show how well the students understand which graph should be used to represent a certain type of data. Informal observations as the students work their way through the problems will help you assess how well the students are able to interpret data from graphs.
